A “School of Music”

October 30, 2011

I heard a “School of Music” on Friday. I saw it, I sat amongst it, I was thrilled by it. “A School of Music?” you say. “We’ve always had one”– and that would be true. But this is a little different. Most schools of music are many things but for a brief moment on Friday, this school of music was one thing. One group, with a single identity and a singular focus. A recital hour.  We were celebrating each other. Faculty, staff and student alike– together, to hear and share music and to become: us. And it was great. Great musicians, great music, great support– great in every way. What a treat, that in the middle of the day we could come together just to hear each other perform, to celebrate our accomplishments, to learn from our efforts, to mark our progress and to cheer that effort, accomplishment ,and progress.  Bravo, School of Music. It’s great to be us.

Congrats to all the performers and the professors. It was truly marvelous to take a break and just listen to music.
